Apollobeat
years active: 1967 - 1971
legendary beat band called after their home scene, musical theatre Apollo. In the band two contradictionary trends wer meeting: one towards rock and blues music, represented by leader Jan Spaleny; the other towards pop music, represented by the founder and program director of Apollo Theatre, Ladislav Staidl, given by his choice of singers for which they served as an accompanying band. The backing band of the pop singers was sometimes regarded as Apollo Theatre Orchestra instead of Apollobeat. The division culminated after 1970; the band temporarily changed name to Jan Spaleny Orchestra; some of the musicians played in Ladislav Staidl Orchestra founded in parallel as the accompanying band of Karel Gott. The band continues in different line-ups and under various names including the original Apollobeat, lately changed to Apollo Band, accompanying the singer Petr Spaleny during all his career.
