jazz singer. Sometimes called Czech Sinatra, in his vocal expression also some similarity with Louis Armstrong can be found. Many years spent in the USA singing on transatlantic ships. Back in the Czech Republic singing jazz (mostly swing) evergreens with Gustav Brom Orchestra and other (often temporary) jazz bands. His repertoir might be regarded too wide; if chosen more precisely, he could be reputed as an extraordinary personality of Czech and European jazz music. In 1995 he almost miraculously escaped death (after serious throat cancer). Although the illness affected his voice, he did not resing and not only that he goes on singing; he also started recording. wrote an authobiographic book, takes part in TV sessions and acted in a partly authobiographic movie Isle of St. Helena (2011). He often performs and records with his daughter, pop singer Tereza Kerndlova.
