Matuska, Waldemar (* 2.7.1932 Kosice)

popular singer, the only one who managed to compete with Karel Gott for the top of Zlaty Slavik pop music chart in the 1960's and 70's. Glassworker by original job, he began his pop star career about 1950. In the 60's cooperation with J. Suchy, J. Slitr, I.Vyskocilem, M. Hornicek (Vltava Cafe, Semafor Theatre), later E. Pilarova, K.Stedry, M.Kubisova, V.Neckar (Rokoko Theatre). In the 70's singing together with Olga Blechova (who later became his wife) and KTO Band. In 1986 Matuska with Blechova left Czech Republic to U.S.A.  After 1989, they came back from time to time to sing the old repertoir.
