Jazz Q
active from year 1964

legendary jazzrock band of keyboardist Martin Kratochvil which housed a number of top Czech jazz and rock musicians. Besides Kratochvil, another Czech jazz legend Jiri Stivin co-founded the band. In early 1970s, after Stivin left, Kratochvil directed the sound towards fusion of jazz and rock music. Thanks to virtuosity and musical background of some of the members, the sound mixed jazz-rock elements with art-rock which was quite rare among the officially working bands (rock avantgarde was in the communist times taken as the instrument of "western ideology"). After the end of communism, Kratochvil dedicated himself to business (founder of Bonton label) but irregularly performs in various line-ups under Jazz Q name.
