Marsyas
active from year 1973

Excellent folk-rock band, in th beginnings inspired by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, later aiming towards rock influenced by R&B, reggae etc., always with a good taste. Zuzana Michnova and Petr Kalandra were the founders, the third equal being Oskar Petr in the beginning; however, he left after the first album. Support of many other well-known musicians on the early recordings (M.Kocab, O.Soukup, E.Viklicky, J.Hruby). After 1989 the band practically vanished, with some occasional one-time reunions. The definitive end of the original Marsyas comes with the death of Petr Kalandra in 1995. After 2004, Michnova puts together a bunch of musicians that occasionally perform under Marsyas name; they even recorded one new song for the compilation 1978-2004. Unfortunately, the activity of this group is quite sporadic.
