Staidl, Ladislav

pop musician, composer, singer, later a businessman. Rock beginnings in the bands Crazy Boys, Karkulka, contributed to foundation of the Olympic club/band; together with his brother they found Apollo Theatre with a rock band, backing the singer Karel Gott. Staidl accompanied Gott on his 6 months USA tour in 1967. The origina Apollo Theatre band went on under the name Ladislav Staidl Orchestra, becoming merely the backing band of Karel Gott. Staidl composed a number of pop hits for Gott and other pop stars, rarely for himself (see his greatest hit Mzi ti do vlasu). His long-term girlfriend was the singer Iveta Bartosova; they have a son Artur. Staidl is listed in the files of collaborators of the communist State Security.
