Zemankova, Inka
years active: 1938 - 1965
popular Czech swing singer; her beginnings as an actress were stopped by the fascist occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1939. She only acted in a couple of movies, the best known being the Hotel Modra Hvezda by Martin Fric (1940) in which her greatest hit Slunecnice (Sunflower) appeared for the first time. After the rise of the communism, she was considered inconvenient; in the 1950s, she worked as a tractor driver. In the beginning of 1960s, she still had a couple of engagements in several European countries; however, she gradually fell into oblivion.
