Plastic People Of The Universe
active from year 1968
The essential band of Czech underground; in the beginnings influenced mostly by The Velvet Underground, Cpt. Beefheart or Frank Zappa (Plastic People is the name of the first song on Zappa's album "Absolutely Free"). An important moment was collaboration with Ivan Martin "Magor" Jirous (Art Historian and poet, acting since 1969 as an art advisor). In 1970's and 1980's playing and recording ilegally, all the time persecuted by the communist government. In 1988 a part of the band started under a new name "Pulnoc". Comeback in mid-90's; in 2001 the fromtman Milan Hlavsa died. However, the band (partly consisting of the original members or related musicians) goes on.
