Klic ( The Key )
active from year 1982
Folk band from Prague, originally founded by six high school and university students as Petrklic (Primrose). After a couple of months, the guitarist Jaroslav Marian joined the band (first just as a stand-in), bringing his own original repertoir and soon becoming the main face of the band together with the talented singer and his future wife Pavla Mokryckiova. In 1983 the mens' part of the band left for the army service; the girls part goes on under the shortened name Klic which sticks with the band for good. The band is awarded in a number of musical surveys and competitions (including the listeners' and authors' Porta). On the turn of the 1980s and 1990s, they were one of the most popular folk band in former Czechoslovakia. After several personal changes, they officially disbanded in 2002. The only original members at that time, Marian spouses, perform for children and Pavla sings solo her chanson and gypsy songs. Some of the bands' songs went almost traditional, being sung at campfires up to these days (Promoklas, Omnia vincit amor etc.). In 2012, the band took a 30th anniversary tour and as a result of the warm welcome from the audience, they are coming back to occasional concert and studio activities.
