Babalet
years active: 1984 - 1997
Pioneers of Czech Reggae. Founded from the bands Omnibus and Mama Bubo. Breaking point in the band history was the fouder singer Ales Drvota's death in 1987. After more than a year's searching, new African singer Martin Tankwey from Kongo comes, singing in the mixture of English, Czech, French and African Lingala languages. First impressions are promising, the band sounds exotic enough which attracts popularity (besides, Tankwey is a born showman, also known from TV weather report show). Unfortunately, the quality of repertoir is unstable and the popularity is slowly fading out. Finally, most of the band's activities end in 1997. After 2004, the band at least occasionly revived their concert activity.
