Viktor Kalabis

Prominent Czech composer of chamber and symphonic music of the 20th century. After World War II, he studied at the Prague Conservatory with Prof. E. Hlobil and simultaneously at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, majoring in Musicology and Philosophy. From 1948-1952 he studied composition and music theory at Prague Musica Academy. Here he met the pianist and harpsichordist Zuzana Růžičková in 1951, who was his piano teacher, and married her the following year. From 1952 he worked for 19 years in a newsroom for children and young people of Czechoslovakian Radio, after which he devoted himself exclusively to composition. R. 1966 he helped founding of the International Radio Competition of Young Musicians Concertino Praga.
